Card Vault Overview
Updated over 6 months ago

Card Vault allows you to store payment methods in a secure vault so they may be charged later. Payment Methods stored in the Card Vault do not expire for as long as the payment details remain valid. For example, you can charge a vaulted card for as long as the card does not expire.

Add New Payment Method

When adding a new payment method in LawPay, email address and postal code are the only required fields beyond the payment method itself. For cards, the required fields are Card Number, Expiration Month, and Expiration Year. Storing the CVV code is not PCI Compliant and therefore not stored. To store a payment method, follow the below steps:

  1. Click Card Vault from the left navigation menu.

  2. Click Add New Card

  3. Select "Card" or "eCheck"

  4. Fill out required fields and Save

Request Card

The Request Card feature allows you to request your clients store their payment methods themselves through a secure online form. Your client will receive an email requesting their payment method information with an included link to LawPay’s secure online form to collect their payment method. To request a saved payment method, follow the below steps:

  1. On the Card Vault page, click Request New Card

  2. Select Send Email

  3. Enter the client’s email address

  4. Click Send

Once the email is sent, you will see the client’s email address on the Card Vault page. When the client has submitted their payment method, the Charge button will be activated.

How to charge a saved payment method

On the card vault page, click Charge next to which client you would like to charge. From here, type in an amount and select which account you would like the funds deposited into. When done, click Submit. Note: Charges made from the Card Vault page can take up to 5 minutes to appear on the Transactions page.

Managing Cards and Contacts

If payment details change for your client, you can edit the saved payment method to reflect this. Next to the contact, click the three dots and select Manage Cards. From here you can edit the payment method without needing the full card number.

If you need to edit or delete a contact, select Manage Contact.
